Records created between 1 March 2019 and 4 August 2020 relating to the consideration of Mr Robert Watt as a candidate for nomination as a member of the board of the Football Association of Ireland. Mr Robert Watt, the secretary general at the Department of Public Expenditure was recently appointed to the board of the FAI. The Sunday Times has reported that former sports minister Shane Ross blocked the appointment during the Minister’s tenure because of perceived or other conflicts of interest. Following the general election in 2020 and subsequent government formation, a decision was made to progress with the appointment and apparently, the FAI had kept the board vacancy open for several months to facilitate the appointment. I would like to see copies of correspondence within the Department and between the Department and officials from other Departments, including the Department of the Taoiseach, between the Department and external bodies

This request is being made under the Freedom of Information Act 2014 and in light of the recent FOI from the Irish Times, I have grave concerns over the monitoring of Irish Social Media by government departments. As such, I am requesting any similar information that your department is collecting on Irish social media commentary on the actions of your department. In order to be perfectly clear, I would like to receive any information (posts, comments, shares/retweets, likes etc.) that your department has been collecting and collating from Irish Social Media. While the information published by the Irish Times could be said to be collecting as a means of ‘gauging public opinion’, the information I am requesting does not need to inherently do the same, but if you could include the purpose for which it was collected, that would be much appreciated. I'd like to access records from January 2019 to today, August 19th 2020
