The most recent dated documentation held by the Department that explains and outlines the regulations that govern ‘the justification for the existence of the two separate grades of Assistant Principal Officer Standard and Higher and the differentiation in the roles and duties to be assigned to each of these grades, given the difference of €7,000 plus per annum paid in respect of them. As this is a Civil Service policy matter it comes within the remit of the Department of Public Expenditure & Reform’ and if no such document or regulations exist then the whole basis for the different salary paid to the two grades must be called into question.
