Meath County Council The number of individual cases of elder abuse reported to Meath County Council in the year 2015. By an 'elder', I mean the accepted chronological age of 65 years as a definition of 'elderly' person, and by instances of elder abuse, I mean any instance in which there was a single, or repeated act, or lack of appropriate action, occurring within any relationship where there is an expectation of trust, which causes harm or distress to an older person. Any relationship includes, but is not limited to, cases that occurred in nursing homes, by an employed carer, or by a trusted family member.
