Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration The Minister’s published policy guidance on appraising naturalisation applications on the basis of Irish descent and/or Irish associations. This being entitled “Applications based on Irish descent or Irish associations” and published online at the web address https://www.irishimmigration.ie/how-to-become-a- citizen/applications-based-on-irish-descent-or-irish- associations. The Minister’s policy guidance, whilst discussing ‘ascent’ and ‘descent’ as would typically be the case for blood relations, makes no mention of, or reference to, the Minister’s appraisal of Irish associations through affinity in the form of marriage to an Irish Citizen. Please would you be kind enough to furnish me any supplementary policy guidance or additional records reflecting any principles, procedures, rules, policies and/or guidelines used by the Department of Justice, over and above the aforementioned published policy guidance, that would provide direction as to the Minister’s absolute discretion in appraising naturalisation applications where Irish associations are claimed through marriage to an Irish Citizen.
