The plan
Executive Summary Our Sustainability Implementation Plan
Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII)’s remit is to secure the provision, development and safe operation of Ireland’s National Road Network, light rail and metro infrastructure, and greenways. TII’s Sustainability Implementation Plan (SIP) sets out our six core sustainability principles as a key component, supporting TII’s vision (see Figure 1). The SIP principles underpin TII’s sustainability efforts and are aligned with the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The SIP provides the practical framework through which TII gives effect to its Statement of Strategy 2026–2030, translating strategic objectives into measurable, organisation‑wide sustainability actions. The SIP outlines the approach to governance, targets and performance monitoring, and supports the integration of environmental, social and governance considerations across TII’s activities.
Through the establishment of Sustainability Principles, Sustainability Outcomes, and aligned targets and metrics, the SIP enables TII to track progress, demonstrate accountability, and provide assurance to stakeholders, while supporting the delivery of safe, resilient and sustainable transport infrastructure for Ireland. The SIP further aligns our project delivery with current national targets and legislation, ensuring we contribute to achieving national decarbonisation goals, creating sustainable transport and delivering positive social impact.
First published in 2021, subsequent updates in 2024 and 2026 ensure that the SIP remains up to date and fit for purpose. This keeps sustainability relevant and embedded throughout our remit and across the organisation to support the delivery of TII’s national targets, actions and strategic ambitions. This document sets out TII’s progress in delivering the ambitions of the 2021 and 2024 iterations of the SIP, highlighting the tangible steps taken to embed sustainability across the organisation and the outcomes being realised in the planning, delivery and operation of transport infrastructure. It also reflects TII’s ambition to continue strengthening sustainability integration as part of everyday decision making and delivery.
