Accredited Learning Recognition Event 2021

The NSSO’s third annual Accredited Learning Recognition Event took place in December 2021, an incredible 99 learning awards were received by 77 NSSO staff members.

NSSO CEO, Hilary Murphy-Fagan applauded NSSO staff and recognised accredited learning recipients for their achievements.

NSSO staff received 11 CIPD certificates, 10 for coaching and mentoring, 25 for Irish language, 14 for Lean Six Sigma, 12 Refund of Fees, 19 SCCS and 6 Train the Trainer certificates, with a total of 99 certifications awarded.

There was a significant increase in the number of staff completing HR, Payroll, Finance and Leadership training in 2021 with the number of awards up 42% year on year highlighting our staff’s commitment to achieve their career development goals and objectives.

Promoting the Irish language was also a priority for the NSSO in 2021 and therefore, special guest Derek Ó Briain, Education Manager at Gaelchultúr, spoke about the importance of providing services to the public through Irish.

Aoife Harkin,

Higher Executive Officer, Human Resources

I’ve worked in the NSSO since July 2015. When I joined I worked in the Pay team within HR Services as a Clerical Officer; I then got promoted to Executive Officer in November 2018 and joined the HR team. Most recently I’ve been promoted to HEO and work as a Junior HR Business Partner.

I’ve recently completed a Professional Diploma in Industrial and Employee Relations, having applied for the course through the NSSO’s Refund of Fees Programme.

The course has benefited me in a number of ways. It’s provided me with additional materials and improved my knowledge of the core principles, concepts and rules of Irish Law. Working in Human Resources, I need to ensure we abide by the different policies set out by the Civil Service. The course has given me a general understanding of human behaviour and the psychology that underpins industrial and employment relations.

National Shared Services Office (NSSO)

Terence Carmody Executive Officer, Payroll Services

I became an Executive Officer in August 2019 and in my new role faced many challenges. I decided to take on the IPASS Diploma in Payroll Management as a means of self-development and to better serve my team in Payroll Operations.

Taking on additional studies while working fulltime is no mean feat. Doing it in the midst of a pandemic also presented challenges as course work was delivered via remote learning.

The modules covered in the course were Management Theory, Employment Law and Advanced Payroll Techniques. I found all of these relevant and helpful in my daily role. I was able to achieve a mark of distinction on the course. As a result, I feel much more confident and capable in my role and have now been appointed HEO in Customer Relations and Support Services.

The Refund of Fees Scheme is a fantastic scheme and certainly worth exploring for those looking to advance themselves or their career.
