Magdalene Laundries

One submission referenced the Magdalene Laundries (AI). AI recommended that the Department implement the UN Committee Against Torture 2011 recommendation, to institute an independent investigation into “all complaints of torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment” in Ireland’s Magdalene Laundries. AI stated their view that women and girls within the Magdalene Laundries “were subjected to a range of human rights abuses”.
