I propose that we address the issue of HGVs going through the town by bringing in byelaws to ban same. Photographic and video evidence sent by residents have exposed the danger that these vehicles pose. The whole point of the bypass is to make the town a more pleasant place to live. The town of Kells achieved a ban in 2016 and the Town of Ashbourne should follow.

  • 10 December 2020 Laytown-Bettystown carried

To ask Meath County Council to consider providing pop up ‘cycle lanes’ by using cycle symbol on hard shoulders where roadway width permits. This would be on a trial basis in South Drogheda and East Meath district. In light of the ongoing travel restrictions imposed by COVID 19, funding availability from the NTA to provide cycle lanes in support of more active travel measures, this is has the potential to be a cost effective and timely solution. The initiative would also support the councils own work in securing ‘Greenway’s across the County. This could be a wonderful and visible short-term solution to making roads around East Meath more cycle/pedestrian friendly. If successful, it could then be rolled out across the County.
