  • 20 April 2016 Navan carried

That Navan Municipal District, representing the county town of Meath, a county which is famous for its large number of dairy farmers, would get involved in assisting the Meath Artisan food group to showcase their cheeses and other dairy products. West Cork alone boasts 24 registered producers of cheese compared to Meath's three. I am so impressed by the commitment of local small producers and farmers who work hard for what can be described as a labour of love. There is huge potential for growth in this sector as well as great opportunities to create employment to supply the global market. Local producers would love to showcase and display their superior, nutritious, healthy produce on Kennedy Road, on Saturdays from June until October, during the hours of 11am to 4pm on a trial basis. I call on Navan Municipal District members to support this motion. This project also has huge potential to enhance the proposed food hub for Navan.

I'd like to request that they closely examine pedestrian movement and footfall in the Kennedy Plaza area, in particular where people pass onto the plaza from Dunnes Stores. There are many considerations to be borne in mind such as pedestrian awareness, wheelchair access and speed limits, before decisions can be made.
